Omisalj is the old Frankopan citadel in the northern part of the island, where the island of Krk came closest to the mainland by bridge and airport connected with the entire world. The old part of the town arised on the "Vela rock," a steep, rocky, cut off vertically hill under which the deep sea has crept into the land creating Omišalj picturesque bay. While walking through the many narrow streets you will hear some historical story from the Liburnian and Roman times, about Frankopan counts or perhaps visit the parish church of the 13th century with valuable altarpiece and rosette on the facade.

Not far from Omisalj, once there was Fulfinum Roman settlement and today there are remains of an early Christian basilica from the 5th century.
The picturesque town is situated on a hill with a beautiful view of Rijeka and Opatija and the island of Cres. In its offer there are hotels, guest houses, camping, long bay ideal for rowing and sailing races (regattas), sports facilities (tennis, golf), entertainment and exquisite cultural heritage - the center of the Glagolitic - missals. Along with traditional race "Bodulska regatta", it is very important folk festival "Stomorina" a day after the Assumption - young men and women dancing in the town square raise "Bandira."

As a tourist destination, we could recommend Omisalj to the guests who are interested in the written culture and folk heritage of the island, to active vacation fans and families with children.
